These air fryer apple fritters are a healthier twist on the classic treat, featuring tender cinnamon-spiced apples in a fluffy batter, crisped to perfection with minimal oil. Quick, easy, and crowd-pleasing, they’re perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.

  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp (25g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk (dairy or unsweetened plant milk)
  • 2 tbsp (30g) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (about 175g) peeled, diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
  • For the Glaze (Optional):
  • 1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp (15–30ml) milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • For Dusting (Optional):
  • Extra cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and dice apples into 1/4-inch cubes. Toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and fold gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in diced apples until evenly distributed. If batter is too thick, add a tablespoon of milk.
  6. Preheat air fryer to 370°F (188°C) for 2 minutes.
  7. Line air fryer basket with parchment paper if desired. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of batter per fritter, spacing them apart.
  8. Air fry for 5–6 minutes, flip fritters, then cook another 5–6 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. For glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over warm fritters or dust with cinnamon sugar.
  10. Let fritters cool on a wire rack for a few minutes to set glaze. Serve warm.

Notes

For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. For vegan, substitute flax eggs, non-dairy milk, and vegan butter or coconut oil. Dice apples small for best texture. Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket—cook in batches for even crisping. Fritters are best served warm but can be reheated in the air fryer. Glaze is optional; dusting with cinnamon sugar is also delicious.
