This homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte is rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced with real pumpkin puree. It’s better than the coffee shop version, ready in under 10 minutes, and completely customizable to your taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree (100% pure, not pie filling)
  • 1 cup whole milk (or 2%, oat milk, or barista blend almond milk)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (or half-and-half, or oat milk for dairy-free)
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or 12 shots espresso
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ginger, 1/8 tsp nutmeg, pinch cloves)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons maple syrup or brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Extra pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Brew 1/2 cup of strong coffee or pull 1-2 shots of espresso. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and 1 tablespoon of milk until smooth and fragrant (about 1 minute).
  3. Add remaining milk and heavy cream. Whisk continuously until steaming hot, but do not boil (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat. Whisk in vanilla extract, maple syrup or brown sugar (start with 1 tablespoon), and a pinch of salt. Taste and adjust sweetness.
  5. Pour hot coffee or espresso into a large mug. If using a milk frother, froth the pumpkin milk mixture for 15-20 seconds until foamy. Otherwise, whisk vigorously.
  6. Pour the hot milk mixture over the coffee, holding back foam with a spoon if desired. Top with whipped cream and a dusting of pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a super smooth latte, blend the pumpkin puree with a splash of milk before adding to the saucepan. The pumpkin milk base can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop, do not microwave. To make it vegan, use oat milk and coconut cream, and maple syrup as sweetener.
