Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons (10ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.5g) salt
  • Optional: 1/2 cup (60g) chopped pecans
  • Optional: 1/2 cup (90g) white chocolate chips
  • Optional: Maple glaze (powdered sugar and maple syrup)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat 1 cup (226g) of softened unsalted butter with 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar and 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar until light and fluffy—about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Beat in 1 large egg, 1/4 cup (60ml) of pure maple syrup, and 2 teaspoons (10ml) of vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon (2.5g) baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon (1.5g) salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cookies soft.
  6. Gently fold in 1/2 cup (60g) chopped pecans or 1/2 cup (90g) white chocolate chips if desired.
  7. Scoop the dough using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, roll into balls, and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers will look slightly underdone—that’s okay!
  9. Allow the cookies to rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

[‘Don’t overmix the dough to avoid tough cookies.’, ‘Use pure maple syrup for authentic flavor.’, ‘Chill the dough for 15 minutes if it’s too soft to prevent spreading during baking.’, ‘The cookies will look slightly underdone when removed from the oven but will firm up as they cool.’]
