Golden, flaky twists filled with gooey caramel and spiced apple filling, perfect for brunch or any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • Flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a sauté pan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples soften and the mixture becomes syrupy. Set aside to cool.
  2. Lightly flour your work surface and roll out each puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases. Each sheet should be about 10×12 inches.
  3. Spoon the apple mixture evenly over one puff pastry sheet, leaving a small border along the edges. Top it with the second sheet of puff pastry, pressing gently to seal.
  4. Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice the layered pastry into 1-inch-wide strips. Twist each strip gently and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Brush the twists with a beaten egg to give them that shiny, golden finish.
  6. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the twists for 15-18 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
  7. Once the twists are slightly cooled, drizzle them generously with caramel sauce. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold before working with it to prevent stickiness. Cool the apple filling before spreading it on the pastry to avoid sogginess.
