  • 1 lb (450g) pizza dough
  • 6 oz (170g) thinly sliced cooked ham
  • 1 cup (100g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup (25g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • All-purpose flour (for dusting)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Dust your work surface with flour, then roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle, roughly 12×16 inches (30×40 cm).
  3. Spread the ham evenly across the center of the dough, leaving about 2 inches (5 cm) of space around the edges. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top. Dust with Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
  4. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to make diagonal cuts along both sides of the dough, creating about 1-inch-wide (2.5 cm) strips. Fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides, to create a braided look.
  5. Pinch the ends of the braid to seal it, then brush the entire roll with the beaten egg for a shiny, golden crust.
  6. Place the roll on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until it’s golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  7. Let the roll cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley or red pepper flakes if desired.

Notes

Don’t overfill the roll to prevent breaking or leaking cheese. Use cold dough for easier handling and don’t skip the egg wash for a golden crust.
