A straightforward, juicy, and perfectly seasoned cheeseburger with melty American cheese, fresh toppings, and a special sauce, ideal for quick and satisfying meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 preferred)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 soft hamburger buns, lightly toasted
  • 1 cup iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • 1 medium tomato, sliced
  • 8 dill pickle slices
  • ½ small red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, gently combine ground beef with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Avoid overmixing.
  2. Divide the meat into 4 equal portions and form each into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Press a slight indent in the center with your thumb.
  3. Heat a cast iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes until hot but not smoking.
  4. Place patties in the pan, cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side without moving them. Flip once, place a slice of American cheese on each patty, and cook for another 3 minutes until cheese melts and internal temperature reaches 160°F.
  5. Lightly toast the buns in a separate pan or toaster until golden and warm.
  6. In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard. Stir well.
  7. Spread the sauce on top and bottom buns. Layer bottom bun with shredded lettuce, cheesy patty, tomato slices, pickles, and onion. Top with the sauced top bun.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.

Notes

Do not overmix the beef to keep patties tender. Press a slight indent in the center of each patty to prevent puffing. Let patties rest for 1-2 minutes after cooking to redistribute juices. Toast buns just before assembling to avoid sogginess. Use a meat thermometer to ensure patties reach 160°F for safety.
