A hearty and cheesy pierogi bake featuring smoky kielbasa and a creamy cheese sauce, perfect for a cozy and fuss-free weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 frozen potato and cheese pierogi
  • 12 oz smoked kielbasa, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk or 2%
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the frozen pierogi and cook until they float to the surface, about 3-4 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced kielbasa and cook for 5 minutes until they start to brown. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, cooking for another 4-5 minutes until onions are translucent and sweet.
  4. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together sour cream, milk, melted butter, salt, and pepper.
  5. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread half the pierogi evenly. Sprinkle half the sautéed kielbasa and onions over the pierogi. Add half the shredded cheese blend on top. Repeat with the remaining pierogi, kielbasa mixture, and cheese to create two layers.
  6. Evenly drizzle the sour cream mixture over the layered ingredients.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden and the edges of the pierogi are slightly crisped.
  8. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top. Serve warm.

Notes

Boil pierogi before baking to avoid sogginess. If top browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil halfway through baking. Let rest 5 minutes before serving for easier slicing. Can substitute cheeses or add veggies like sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers. For gluten-free, use gluten-free pierogi. Dairy-free options available using substitutes.
