These cozy cheesy ham and Swiss sliders baked in brown sugar butter are a quick, easy, and delicious comfort food perfect for casual gatherings or a simple dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 soft dinner rolls or King’s Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices deli ham or leftover cooked ham, thinly sliced (preferably smoked ham)
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese or shredded Swiss cheese (Emmental or Gruyère recommended)
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon poppy seeds
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the slider buns horizontally in half, keeping all the tops and bottoms intact as one big sheet and place in a baking dish.
  3. Layer 12 slices of ham evenly over the bottom half of the buns.
  4. Place one slice of Swiss cheese on top of the ham layer, covering it completely.
  5. Replace the top half of the slider buns over the cheese.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, garlic powder, onion powder, and freshly ground black pepper until smooth.
  7. Pour the sauce evenly over the assembled sliders, using a pastry brush or spoon to spread it across the tops and into the cracks.
  8. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  9. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes to brown the tops.
  10. Remove from the oven, let cool for a couple of minutes, then slice into individual sliders.
  11. Serve warm.

Notes

Cover the sliders with foil while baking to keep buns soft and cheese melty. You can assemble ahead and refrigerate up to 4 hours before baking. For dairy-free or gluten-free options, substitute butter and cheese or buns accordingly. Avoid microwaving leftovers to prevent sogginess.
