A quick and easy homemade frappuccino that captures the creamy, cold, and crunchy caramel ribbon texture of Starbucks, perfect for summer and customizable to your taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) brewed strong coffee, cooled
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk or milk alternative (whole milk recommended, almond or oat milk works well)
  • 1 ½ cups (about 12 large) ice cubes
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (for homemade caramel crunch topping)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (adds depth to the caramel crunch)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (for caramel crunch topping)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream (for whipped cream topping) or canned coconut cream for dairy-free
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Brew 1 cup (240 ml) of strong coffee and set aside to cool.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon unsalted butter. Add 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon brown sugar, stirring constantly. Let the sugar melt and bubble until it turns a deep amber color and starts to caramelize, about 3-4 minutes. Immediately pour the mixture onto a parchment-lined plate and spread thinly. Let cool and harden, then break into small crunchy shards.
  3. In a chilled mixing bowl, whip ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream with 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Alternatively, use canned whipped cream.
  4. In a blender, combine the cooled coffee, 1 cup (240 ml) milk or milk alternative, 1 ½ cups ice cubes, and ¼ cup (60 ml) caramel sauce. Blend on high until smooth and frothy, about 30-45 seconds. Adjust thickness by adding more milk or ice cubes as needed.
  5. Drizzle a little extra caramel sauce inside the glass for the caramel ribbon effect. Pour the blended frappuccino slowly into the glass to maintain the swirl.
  6. Top with whipped cream, sprinkle with caramel crunch shards, and drizzle more caramel sauce over the whipped cream.

Notes

Use large fresh ice cubes for the smoothest blend. Chill coffee before blending to avoid watery frappuccino. For extra crunchy caramel shards, freeze them for 10 minutes before topping. Use chilled glass to keep drink colder longer. Adjust caramel sauce amount to control sweetness. Store leftover caramel crunch shards in airtight container up to 3 days.
