A cozy and indulgent dessert combining espresso-soaked ladyfingers with creamy mascarpone and a touch of Irish whiskey, perfect for chilly evenings or special gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) espresso or strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 3 tablespoons (45 ml) Irish whiskey
  • About 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • 8 ounces (225 g) mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup (65 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
  • Optional: dark chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brew 1 cup (240 ml) of strong espresso or coffee and let it cool completely to room temperature (about 15 minutes).
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the cooled coffee with 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of Irish whiskey and stir gently.
  3. In a large bowl, beat 8 ounces (225 g) mascarpone cheese with 1/3 cup (65 g) granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth (2-3 minutes with an electric mixer).
  4. In a separate chilled bowl, whip 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream until soft peaks form.
  5. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture using a spatula until combined.
  6. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee-whiskey mixture for 1-2 seconds per side, ensuring they remain moist but hold their shape.
  7. Place a layer of soaked ladyfingers (2-3 per cup) at the bottom of each serving cup.
  8. Spoon a generous layer (2-3 tablespoons) of mascarpone cream over the ladyfingers.
  9. Repeat with another soaked ladyfinger layer and finish with a final mascarpone cream layer.
  10. Cover the cups with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight.
  11. Before serving, dust the tops with unsweetened cocoa powder and optionally garnish with dark chocolate shavings.

Notes

Do not over-soak ladyfingers to avoid mushy texture. Use fresh, quality mascarpone for best results. Chill bowls and beaters before whipping cream for better volume. Fold whipped cream gently into mascarpone to keep mixture light. Chill at least 4 hours or overnight for best flavor and texture. Dust cocoa powder just before serving to keep it fresh.
