  • 1 to 2 teaspoons honey (raw or local preferred)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened or lightly sweetened oat milk
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons (3045 ml) hot water (about 175°F / 80°C)
  • Optional: a drop or two of vanilla extract
  • Optional: a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg
  • Optional: maple syrup or agave nectar as honey substitute

Instructions

  1. Scoop 1 to 2 teaspoons (2-4 grams) of matcha powder into a small bowl or wide mug. Sift the matcha to avoid clumps.
  2. Heat 2 to 3 tablespoons (30-45 ml) of water to about 175°F (80°C). Let boiling water cool for 60 seconds if no thermometer is available.
  3. Pour the hot water over the matcha powder. Whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion with a bamboo whisk or handheld frother until frothy and smooth, about 15 to 20 seconds.
  4. Warm 1 cup (240 ml) of oat milk in a small saucepan over medium heat or microwave for about 45 seconds until steaming but not boiling.
  5. Froth the warm oat milk using a milk frother or whisk vigorously for 20 to 30 seconds until creamy foam forms. Alternatively, shake milk in a sealed jar before warming.
  6. Stir 1 to 2 teaspoons honey into the matcha mixture while warm. Add vanilla extract if desired.
  7. Pour the frothed oat milk gently into the matcha mixture, holding back foam with a spoon, then spoon foam on top.
  8. Sip slowly and enjoy the creamy texture, gentle sweetness, and earthy matcha flavor.

Notes

Use water at about 175°F (80°C) to avoid bitterness. Sift matcha powder before whisking to prevent clumps. Froth oat milk well for best texture. Honey adds floral sweetness; substitute with maple syrup or agave for vegan version. Store leftover oat milk separately; prepared latte does not store well.
