A quick and easy creamy Shamrock Shake copycat recipe that blends rich vanilla ice cream with peppermint extract for a refreshing minty treat perfect for St. Patrick’s Day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480 ml) vanilla ice cream (preferably rich, creamy brand like Häagen-Dazs or Breyers)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (full-fat for extra creaminess; dairy-free milk works too)
  • 1 teaspoon pure peppermint extract
  • 35 drops green food coloring (gel food coloring recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • Whipped cream (for topping, optional)
  • Maraschino cherry (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Scoop 2 cups (480 ml) of vanilla ice cream into your blender. Add 1 cup (240 ml) of whole milk.
  2. Pour in 1 teaspoon of pure peppermint extract and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar.
  3. Add 3-5 drops of green food coloring.
  4. Secure the lid and blend on high for about 30-45 seconds until smooth and creamy. If too thick, add a splash more milk and pulse again.
  5. Pause and taste the shake. Adjust peppermint extract or sugar if desired and blend briefly.
  6. Pour into glasses immediately. Top with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry if desired.

Notes

Use high-quality vanilla ice cream for best texture. Measure peppermint extract carefully to avoid overpowering bitterness. Gel food coloring is preferred to maintain vibrant color without watering down the shake. For thicker shakes, add more ice cream or chill milk beforehand. Dairy-free and low-sugar substitutions are possible. Serve immediately for best texture.
