A quick and easy recipe for crispy shrimp coated in a sticky honey garlic glaze, perfect as a snack or light meal. The air fryer ensures a crunchy texture without heavy oil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound peeled and deveined shrimp, medium or large size
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (60g)
  • ¼ cup cornstarch (30g)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Olive oil spray
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. If using frozen shrimp, thaw completely and pat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a medium bowl, mix ½ cup all-purpose flour, ¼ cup cornstarch, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, lightly beat one large egg.
  4. Dip each shrimp first into the beaten egg, letting excess drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Place coated shrimp on a plate and repeat.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and let it run empty for 3 minutes.
  6. Place shrimp in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. Spray lightly with olive oil spray.
  7. Air fry the shrimp for 7-9 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy on the outside and opaque inside. Watch closely after 7 minutes to avoid overcooking.
  8. While shrimp cooks, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan. Warm over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until garlic softens and sauce thickens slightly (about 3-4 minutes). Remove from heat.
  9. Transfer cooked shrimp to a large bowl and pour the warm honey garlic glaze over. Toss gently to coat evenly but keep shrimp crispy.
  10. Serve immediately, optionally garnished with chopped green onions or sesame seeds.

Notes

Pat shrimp dry thoroughly before coating to ensure crispiness. Spray olive oil before air frying to promote a golden crust. Toss shrimp gently in glaze and serve immediately to keep coating crispy. For gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with almond flour and soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos.
