Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tail-on for presentation if you like)
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour (or almond flour for gluten-free option)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten (room temperature)
  • 3/4 cup (75g) panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray or a few tablespoons of oil for air fryer basket
  • 1/2 cup (120g) ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels.
  2. In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs until smooth.
  4. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  5. Dredge each shrimp first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Then dip into the beaten eggs, letting excess drip off, and coat thoroughly with panko breadcrumbs. Place coated shrimp on a parchment-lined plate.
  6. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes.
  7. Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray or brush with oil. Place shrimp in a single layer without touching.
  8. Air fry shrimp for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy and internal temperature reaches 120°F (49°C).
  9. While shrimp cooks, whisk together ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
  10. Remove shrimp carefully, let cool for a minute, and serve with zesty sauce on the side or drizzled over top. Garnish with lemon wedges and chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra crispy shrimp, double coat by repeating the egg and panko step before air frying. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness. Use room temperature eggs for better coating. Preheat the air fryer for best results. Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-4 minutes to regain crispiness.
