These crispy cheesy sausage balls are a quick and easy party appetizer with a perfect balance of crispy outside and gooey inside, loved by kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground sausage (mild or spicy pork sausage)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups baking mix (such as Bisquick)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Optional: 1 tsp hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to come to temperature for 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, baking mix, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, milk, and hot sauce if using. Mix until just combined without overmixing.
  3. Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls, about the size of a walnut, yielding roughly 30 balls. Wet your hands lightly with water to prevent sticking.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and space the sausage balls about 1 inch apart.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping each ball halfway through to brown both sides evenly until golden and crispy.
  6. Remove from oven and transfer sausage balls to a cooling rack for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Do not overmix the ingredients to avoid dense sausage balls. Use room temperature milk and cheese for better mixing. Flip halfway through baking for even crispiness. Freeze uncooked balls for up to 3 months and bake from frozen with extra cooking time. Reheat in oven to maintain crispiness; avoid microwave reheating.
