A quick and easy classic club sandwich featuring crispy toasted bread, savory turkey, smoky bacon, fresh lettuce, tomato, and a creamy mayo spread. Perfect for a satisfying lunch or casual gathering.

Ingredients

  • White sandwich bread, thick sliced (about 3 slices per sandwich)
  • Unsalted butter, softened (for toasting and flavor)
  • Cooked turkey breast slices, about 4 ounces
  • Crispy bacon, 3-4 slices
  • Leaf lettuce, preferably green leaf or butter lettuce (washed and patted dry)
  • Ripe tomato, sliced thinly
  • Thinly sliced red onion (optional)
  • Mayonnaise, about 2 tablespoons
  • Dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • Optional: a light sprinkle of smoked paprika on the mayo

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bacon: Place bacon slices in a cold non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until crispy but still flexible. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease.
  2. Toast the bread: Butter one side of each bread slice lightly. Place buttered side down on the skillet over medium heat. Toast each slice for 2-3 minutes until golden and crisp, watching carefully to prevent burning. Remove and set aside.
  3. Mix the spread: In a small bowl, stir together mayonnaise and Dijon mustard (if using). Add a pinch of smoked paprika if desired for a smoky touch.
  4. Assemble the first layer: Spread a thin layer of the mayo mixture on one slice of toasted bread (buttered side up). Layer turkey slices evenly, then season lightly with salt and pepper.
  5. Add fresh veggies: Place a layer of lettuce leaves and tomato slices over the turkey. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper on the tomato to bring out its flavor.
  6. Create the second bread layer: Top the veggies with another slice of toasted bread, spread mayo mixture on the top side.
  7. Add bacon and onions: Layer crispy bacon slices and thin red onion rings onto the second bread slice. Add another leaf of lettuce for crunch.
  8. Finish the sandwich: Place the last slice of toasted bread on top, buttered side down. Press gently to compact the layers.
  9. Cut and serve: Using a sharp knife, cut the sandwich diagonally into quarters, securing each with a toothpick if needed. Serve immediately to enjoy that fresh crunch.

Notes

Butter the bread before toasting for a golden crust and richer flavor. Spread mayo on both bread slices to prevent sogginess. Salt and drain tomato slices to reduce moisture. Use a serrated knife and gentle sawing motion to slice the sandwich cleanly. Chill sandwich for 5 minutes before cutting for neater quarters. Multitask by cooking bacon and toasting bread simultaneously to save time.
