A quick and easy recipe for crispy deep fried Oreos with a crunchy shell and gooey center, perfect for parties and indulgent treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Oreos (classic sandwich cookies, double-stuff optional)
  • 1 cup (120g) pancake mix (Bisquick or Aunt Jemima recommended)
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) milk (whole milk preferred, 2% or dairy-free alternatives like almond milk also work)
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups (1 liter) vegetable oil (neutral oil with high smoke point like canola or peanut oil)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup pancake mix, 3/4 cup milk, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth. The batter should be thick enough to coat the Oreos but still flow easily. (About 5 minutes)
  2. Heat the oil: Pour 4 cups of vegetable oil into a deep frying pan or Dutch oven. Heat over medium-high until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy. (10 minutes)
  3. Coat the Oreos: Dip each Oreo cookie into the batter, making sure it’s fully coated. Let any excess drip off gently to avoid sogginess. (5 minutes)
  4. Fry the Oreos: Carefully place 3-4 battered Oreos into the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per batch, turning occasionally with a slotted spoon, until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Avoid overcrowding. (10 minutes)
  5. Drain and cool: Remove the Oreos with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack or paper towels to drain and cool slightly. They should be warm and crisp but not greasy.
  6. Serve: Dust generously with powdered sugar while still warm for a classic carnival finish. (1-2 minutes)

Notes

Keep oil temperature steady at 350°F to avoid greasy or burnt Oreos. Fry in small batches to maintain crispness. Use a wire rack to drain for longer crispness. Batter can thicken if left standing; stir before frying. For a healthier option, try air frying at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.
