A quick and easy homemade Chex Mix recipe with a crispy, buttery, and savory flavor that outshines the store-bought version. Perfect for game nights, parties, or anytime snacking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal (75 g)
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex cereal (75 g)
  • 1 cup mixed nuts (140 g) – peanuts, almonds, and cashews
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (85 g), melted
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (15 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt (5 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (2 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (2 g)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, gently stir together Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, and mixed nuts.
  3. Melt the unsalted butter in a microwave-safe bowl or small saucepan over low heat. Add Worcestershire sauce, seasoning salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well until combined.
  4. Slowly drizzle the seasoned butter over the cereal and nuts while stirring gently with a spatula to coat evenly.
  5. Transfer the coated mix to a rimmed baking sheet, spreading it out in an even layer.
  6. Bake for 60 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to prevent sticking or burning, until the mix is light golden brown and toasty.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the mix cool completely on the baking sheet to crisp up further.
  8. Once cooled, transfer the mix to an airtight container for storage.

Notes

Stir every 15 minutes during baking to prevent burning and ensure even seasoning. If mix softens the next day, reheat in a 250°F oven for 5-10 minutes to refresh the crunch. Butter can be substituted with coconut oil for a dairy-free version, but flavor will change. Use certified gluten-free Worcestershire sauce or tamari for gluten-free adaptation.
