Easy Fresh Mini Caprese Salad Skewers Recipe Perfect for Parties

These mini Caprese salad skewers are a quick, fresh, and crowd-pleasing appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and fresh basil drizzled with balsamic glaze. Perfect for parties and easy to assemble in about 15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • Ciliegine mozzarella balls (mini mozzarella balls, about 1 inch diameter)
  • Cherry or grape tomatoes (red or yellow)
  • Fresh basil leaves (small to medium-sized)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Balsamic glaze
  • Salt (flaky sea salt or kosher salt)
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Wooden toothpicks or small bamboo skewers (about 3-inch length)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves gently under cold water. Pat dry with paper towels to avoid sogginess. Drain the mozzarella balls well so they’re not watery.
  2. If your tomatoes are large, halve them to fit nicely on the skewer. Smaller tomatoes can stay whole.
  3. Thread one cherry tomato onto a toothpick or skewer, then a folded basil leaf, and finish with a mozzarella ball. Optionally, alternate another set of tomato and basil for a stacked look.
  4. Arrange the skewers neatly on a serving platter, spacing them so they don’t touch too much.
  5. Lightly spoon extra virgin olive oil over the skewers, followed by a drizzle of balsamic glaze. Sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  6. Let the skewers sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving to allow flavors to mingle and the olive oil to soften the mozzarella slightly.

Notes

Pat tomatoes and mozzarella dry to avoid sogginess. Fold basil leaves gently instead of bunching to keep them intact. Use balsamic glaze instead of vinegar for better flavor and texture. Assemble skewers ahead but add olive oil and balsamic glaze just before serving to keep fresh. Store leftovers covered in the fridge up to 24 hours and add dressing fresh before serving.
