A quick and healthy baked salmon recipe featuring garlic butter and fresh lemon slices, perfect for effortless weeknight dinners that are both flavorful and moist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz / 170 g each, skin-on or skinless)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (60 g), melted
  • 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small bowl, melt 4 tablespoons (60 g) of unsalted butter. Stir in 3 minced garlic cloves until well combined.
  3. Pat dry 4 salmon fillets (about 6 oz / 170 g each). Lightly brush both sides with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil, then season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  4. Place the fillets skin-side down (if skin is on) in your baking dish, leaving space between pieces for even cooking.
  5. Using a spoon or pastry brush, coat the top of each fillet with the garlic butter mixture, making sure some of the minced garlic sticks on top.
  6. Lay thin lemon slices over each fillet.
  7. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until the salmon flakes easily with a fork but remains moist inside. Add a couple of minutes if fillets are thicker.
  8. Check for doneness by looking for opaque, pink flesh that flakes apart easily. Garlic should turn lightly golden.
  9. Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top right after removing from the oven and serve.

Notes

Do not overbake the salmon to keep it moist and tender. Use fresh garlic for best flavor. Let salmon sit at room temperature for 10-15 minutes before baking for even cooking. Thin lemon slices work best to avoid bitterness. Skin-on fillets help lock in moisture and crisp nicely if broiled briefly. If garlic browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil. Butter and garlic can be melted in the microwave for about 30 seconds, stirring halfway.
