Easy Mummy Wrapped Brie with Cranberry Dipping Sauce

A quick and crowd-pleasing Halloween appetizer featuring a wheel of brie wrapped in flaky puff pastry strips, baked to golden perfection and served with a tangy cranberry dipping sauce.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz (225 g) brie cheese wheel, room temperature
  • 1 cup (100 g) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Prepare the cranberry dipping sauce: In a small saucepan, combine cranberries, sugar, water, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Cook about 10 minutes until cranberries burst and sauce thickens. Add cinnamon and nutmeg if desired. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into thin strips about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) wide.
  4. Place the brie wheel in the center of the baking sheet. Wrap the puff pastry strips around the brie horizontally and vertically, leaving small gaps to mimic mummy bandages. Tuck ends underneath to secure.
  5. Brush the puff pastry strips with the beaten egg wash for a golden finish.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until pastry is puffed and golden and brie is melted inside.
  7. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Serve warm with cranberry dipping sauce and garnish with fresh rosemary or thyme if desired.

Notes

Keep the brie rind on to help the cheese hold its shape while melting. Use thin strips of puff pastry for a flaky texture and a charming mummy look. If pastry browns too quickly, tent with foil halfway through baking. Cranberry sauce can be made ahead and reheated before serving. For dairy-free or gluten-free options, substitute vegan cheese and gluten-free puff pastry.
