A quick and easy chili lime popcorn seasoning mix that adds a tangy, smoky, and spicy kick to plain popcorn, perfect for game day or any snack time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels (or 12 cups popped popcorn)
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
  • Zest of 1 medium lime (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn using your preferred method to yield about 12 cups of popped popcorn.
  2. Zest one medium lime using a zester or microplane, avoiding the white pith.
  3. In a small bowl, combine chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, brown sugar (if using), and lime zest. Stir well to mix evenly.
  4. Melt butter or warm olive oil.
  5. Transfer the popped popcorn to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the melted butter or oil over the popcorn while gently tossing to coat evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the chili lime seasoning mix over the coated popcorn and toss thoroughly until well covered.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning by adding more chili powder or lime zest if desired, then toss again.
  8. Serve immediately for best crunch.

Notes

Use fresh lime zest for best flavor. Adjust seasoning to taste. Use olive oil for a lighter coating or butter for richness. Store dry seasoning mix in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. Popcorn is best served fresh for maximum crunch. To revive leftover popcorn, warm in a 250°F oven for 5-7 minutes.
