Ingredients

Scale
  • Assorted bagels (plain, everything, or sesame)
  • 810 ounces fresh smoked salmon (wild-caught preferred)
  • Thinly sliced red onions
  • 2 tablespoons capers, rinsed
  • Fresh dill sprigs (for garnish)
  • Cherry tomatoes or cucumber slices (optional)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the creamy dill spread: In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese with sour cream or Greek yogurt. Whisk until smooth and creamy (about 2-3 minutes).
  2. Add chopped fresh dill, lemon juice, lemon zest, and minced garlic if using. Stir well to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate while prepping other ingredients.
  3. Slice the bagels in half horizontally. Toast if desired for 1-2 minutes until golden and slightly crisp.
  4. Thinly slice red onions into rings or half-moons. Rinse capers under cold water. Slice cherry tomatoes or cucumbers if using. Snip fresh dill sprigs for garnish.
  5. Arrange bagel halves on a serving board. Fan out smoked salmon slices next to bagels.
  6. Add small bowls or piles of creamy dill spread, capers, red onions, and optional veggies.
  7. Garnish with fresh dill sprigs and add lemon wedges for squeezing over the salmon.
  8. Optionally drizzle olive oil over salmon and sprinkle with freshly cracked black pepper.
  9. Serve immediately to keep bagels fresh and spread cool.

Notes

Let cream cheese soften at room temperature for 30 minutes before mixing for smooth spread. Soak red onion slices in cold water for 10 minutes to mellow sharpness if desired. Use high-quality smoked salmon for best flavor. Prepare spread and toppings ahead but assemble board last minute for freshness. Toast bagels just before serving.
