A quick and refreshing strawberry basil lemonade that combines fresh strawberries, basil, and lemon juice for a perfect summer drink with a subtle herbal twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 810 fresh basil leaves, gently bruised
  • 1/2 cup (4 large lemons) fresh lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (or 65 grams), adjust to taste
  • 4 cups cold water (still or sparkling)
  • Ice cubes (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Wash and hull about 1 cup of fresh strawberries. Slice roughly.
  2. Rinse 8 to 10 fresh basil leaves and pat dry. Place strawberries and basil in a large pitcher or mixing bowl.
  3. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, gently press down on the strawberries and basil to release juices and oils without pulverizing.
  4. Juice 4 large lemons to yield about 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice. Add to the muddled mixture.
  5. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and stir well until sugar dissolves completely.
  6. Pour in 4 cups of cold water and stir thoroughly.
  7. Optional: Strain the lemonade through a fine mesh sieve for a smoother texture.
  8. Add ice cubes to glasses or pitcher. Garnish with a basil leaf or strawberry slice if desired.
  9. Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes for flavors to marry.

Notes

Do not over-muddle basil to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Adjust sweetness to taste. Can substitute sugar with raw honey, agave syrup, or monk fruit sweetener for dietary preferences. Sparkling water can replace still water for a fizzy twist. Lemonade keeps fresh up to 2 days refrigerated; best consumed day one.
