  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups water, divided

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup by combining 1 cup of water and 3/4 cup granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Hull and wash the strawberries. Puree them in a blender or food processor until smooth. For less pulp, strain the puree through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds.
  3. Juice the lemons using a citrus juicer to get about 1 cup of fresh lemon juice. Strain to remove seeds if necessary.
  4. In a mixing pitcher, combine the cooled simple syrup, pureed strawberries, and fresh lemon juice. Add the remaining 3 cups of cold water and stir well. Adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more syrup or lemon juice if desired.
  5. Refrigerate the lemonade for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld. Serve chilled over ice cubes and garnish with fresh mint leaves or lemon slices if desired.

Notes

Use ripe strawberries for natural sweetness to reduce added sugar. Adjust sweetness and tartness to taste. Strain puree for a smoother texture. The lemonade keeps well refrigerated for up to 3 days; stir before serving. For a bubbly twist, substitute some water with sparkling water. Use organic ingredients when possible for best flavor.
