A quick and easy Halloween-themed dessert featuring layers of creamy chocolate pudding, crushed Oreo cookies mimicking dirt, and playful candy decorations like gummy worms and tombstone cookies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 Oreo cookies (regular or double-stuffed, crushed finely)
  • 1 package instant chocolate pudding mix (3.9 oz / 110 g)
  • 2 cups (480 ml) milk (whole or 2%)
  • 8 oz (225 g) whipped topping (like Cool Whip or homemade whipped cream)
  • Gummy worms for decoration
  • Optional: chocolate or vanilla sandwich cookies for tombstone shapes
  • Optional: black decorating gel or edible marker to write “RIP” on tombstone cookies

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pudding: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix with 2 cups (480 ml) of cold milk. Whisk for about 2 minutes until thickened. Let it rest for 5 minutes to fully set.
  2. Fold in whipped topping: Gently fold 8 oz (225 g) of whipped topping into the pudding until blended but still light and fluffy.
  3. Crush Oreo cookies: Place about 20 Oreo cookies (200 g) in a zip-lock bag and crush them finely with a rolling pin or pulse in a food processor to achieve fine crumbs with some texture.
  4. Layer the dessert: Add a generous spoonful of Oreo crumbs (about 2 tablespoons / 30 g) to the bottom of each serving cup. Add a layer of pudding mixture (about ¼ cup / 60 ml). Repeat one more Oreo crumb layer and finish with pudding on top.
  5. Add graveyard decorations: Insert a few gummy worms crawling out of the “dirt.” If using tombstone-shaped cookies, write “RIP” on them with edible marker or black decorating gel and place them standing in the top layer.
  6. Chill before serving: Refrigerate the dirt cups for at least 30 minutes to let everything set and flavors meld.
  7. Serve and enjoy: Best enjoyed cold and fresh.

Notes

Use cold milk for best pudding texture. Fold whipped topping gently to keep it airy. Crush Oreos just before assembly to preserve crunch. Chill dessert at least 30 minutes before serving. For vegan or gluten-free versions, substitute gluten-free cookies and dairy-free pudding and whipped topping. Avoid overmixing whipped topping. Prepare pudding and crumbs up to a day ahead but assemble shortly before serving to keep Oreo crumbs crunchy.
