This homemade salted caramel brulée latte combines creamy milk, real caramel, a crackly brûléed sugar topping, and a crunchy toffee finish for a coffeehouse-style treat you can make at home in just 10 minutes. Perfect for brunch, a cozy afternoon, or impressing guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk (or oat, almond, or soy milk)
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso (hot, freshly brewed)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, or coconut cream for dairy-free)
  • 2 tbsp caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/2 tsp fine sea salt (plus more for garnish)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for brulée topping)
  • 1/4 cup toffee bits (store-bought or homemade, e.g., Heath bits)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt (for sprinkling on toffee crunch)
  • Whipped cream (optional, dairy or coconut-based)
  • Extra caramel sauce for drizzling (optional)
  • Crushed toffee or caramel candy (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Toffee Crunch: In a small skillet over low heat, add 1/4 cup toffee bits and 1 tbsp butter. Stir gently until the toffee just starts to melt and clump (about 2 minutes). Spread onto parchment, sprinkle with flaky sea salt, let cool, then chop or break into pieces.
  2. Make Caramel Sauce (if homemade): In a small saucepan, melt 1/4 cup sugar over medium heat, swirling until deep amber. Whisk in 1 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp heavy cream, and 1/2 tsp sea salt. Stir until smooth, then let cool slightly.
  3. Heat and Froth Milk: Pour 2 cups milk and 1/4 cup heavy cream (if using) into a small saucepan. Heat over medium until steaming but not boiling. Remove from heat and froth with a milk frother or whisk until foamy.
  4. Assemble the Latte: Pour 1/2 cup hot coffee or espresso into a heatproof mug. Stir in 2 tbsp caramel sauce and 1 tsp vanilla extract. Add the hot, frothed milk, holding back the foam, then spoon the foam on top.
  5. Add Brulée Topping: Sprinkle 2 tbsp granulated sugar evenly over the milk foam. Caramelize the sugar with a kitchen torch until golden and crackly, or broil for 1–2 minutes, watching closely.
  6. Finish and Garnish: Top with whipped cream if desired, scatter toffee crunch pieces, drizzle with extra caramel sauce, and add a pinch of flaky sea salt.

Notes

For dairy-free, use plant-based milk and coconut cream. To make ahead, prep caramel and toffee crunch in advance. Use a broiler if you don’t have a torch, but watch closely. For gluten-free, check toffee bits for added flour. Adjust sweetness by reducing caramel or sugar. Let brûléed sugar cool 30 seconds before sipping to avoid burns.
