Instructions

  1. Start by browning the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until it turns golden brown and smells nutty—this takes about 5 minutes. Let it cool for 10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooled brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat until creamy and smooth, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing, as it can make the cookies tough.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips or chunks using a rubber spatula.
  7. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to an hour. Chilling helps the cookies hold their shape and enhances the flavor.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  9. Scoop out the dough using an ice cream scoop or tablespoon. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers look slightly underbaked. They’ll continue to set as they cool.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.
