  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (115g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups (250g) of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  3. Cut 1/2 cup (115g) cold unsalted butter into small cubes. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  5. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring gently with a wooden spoon. Fold in 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips.
  6. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it—just enough to bring it together. Pat it into a round disk about 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick.
  7. Using a knife or a bench scraper, cut the dough into 8 equal wedges. Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops with a little heavy cream for a golden finish. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until lightly golden and firm to the touch.
  9. Let the scones cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before serving.
