Quick and easy maple bourbon glazed ham steaks with a perfect balance of sweet and smoky flavors, ideal for a fuss-free dinner or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless ham steaks, about 1/2 inch thick
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (Grade A dark amber preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley or thyme

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glaze: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together maple syrup, bourbon, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, ground black pepper, and garlic powder until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Heat the pan: Place a skillet over medium heat and add butter. Let it melt completely, swirling to coat the bottom evenly without burning.
  3. Cook the ham steaks: Add ham steaks in a single layer to the hot pan. Cook 3-4 minutes per side until golden crust forms.
  4. Add the glaze: Pour the maple bourbon glaze evenly over the ham steaks. Reduce heat to medium-low and let the glaze bubble gently. Spoon glaze over the ham repeatedly as it thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Check for doneness: When glaze is thick and glossy and ham is heated through, it is ready to serve.
  6. Serve: Transfer ham steaks to plates, spoon extra glaze over top, and garnish with fresh parsley or thyme if desired.

Notes

If dairy-free, substitute butter with neutral oil like avocado or canola oil. Bourbon can be replaced with apple juice for a non-alcoholic version. Avoid burning glaze by keeping heat gentle and stirring frequently.
