A bright, fruity, and icy summer cocktail blending fresh watermelon, tequila, lime juice, and a touch of sweetness for a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and boozy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups fresh watermelon, diced and seeded
  • 1 cup tequila blanco
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup
  • 2 cups ice cubes
  • Salt for rimming the glass (optional)
  • Mint leaves or lime wedges for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups of ripe watermelon into chunks, removing seeds as you go. Place the chunks in the blender.
  2. Pour in 1 cup tequila blanco, 1/2 cup fresh lime juice, 1/4 cup triple sec, and 1/4 cup simple syrup.
  3. Add 2 cups of ice cubes on top of the watermelon and liquids.
  4. Secure the lid and blend on high until the mixture is smooth and icy, about 1-2 minutes. Stop and scrape down the sides if needed.
  5. Taste the slushie and adjust sweetness or strength by adding more simple syrup or a splash of cold water or more ice, then blend briefly again.
  6. Rub a lime wedge around the rims of your glasses, then dip them into salt spread on a plate for a classic margarita touch.
  7. Pour the frozen watermelon margarita slushie into the prepared glasses and garnish with a lime wedge or a sprig of mint.

Notes

Use ripe, fragrant watermelon for the sweetest flavor. For a thicker slush, freeze watermelon chunks overnight and use them instead of ice. Blend ice last to keep texture light and fluffy. Fresh lime juice is essential for brightness. Salt rim lightly to avoid overpowering the drink. Best served immediately to maintain icy texture.
