A quick and easy homemade summer drink combining sweet watermelon and tart lime juice blended with ice for a refreshing slushie perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (about 600 grams) seedless watermelon, chopped
  • 3 to 4 fresh limes, juiced (about 1/4 cup or 60 ml)
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 2 cups (about 300 grams) ice cubes, crushed
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Chop about 4 cups (600 grams) of seedless watermelon into chunks, removing rind and seeds.
  2. Juice 3 to 4 fresh limes to get approximately 1/4 cup (60 ml) of lime juice, strain if needed.
  3. Dissolve 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar in 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water in a small bowl.
  4. Add watermelon chunks and fresh lime juice to a high-speed blender and blend on high for about 30 seconds until smooth.
  5. Pour in the sugar water mixture and 2 cups (300 grams) crushed ice, then blend again on high, pulsing if necessary, for 30 to 45 seconds until slushie consistency is achieved.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar or honey if desired, blending briefly again. Add a splash of cold water if too thick.
  7. Serve immediately in chilled glasses, garnished with fresh mint leaves or a slice of lime.

Notes

Use ripe seedless watermelon for best sweetness and smooth texture. Crush ice finely for a velvety slushie. Dissolve sugar in water before blending to avoid gritty texture. Blend in stages to prevent blender overheating. Can prep mixture ahead and freeze, then pulse with ice before serving. For low sugar, reduce sugar and add sparkling water for fizz.
